Artist Statement is a 3 minute continuous video loop, recorded directly off of the computer screen displaying the artist's actual artist statement, one letter at a time. The piece plays on a 3 inch LCD screen with sound. The piece is a witty look at digital technology, the computer screen, the concept of art statements, and the compression of language and information.

3 min Video Loop on 19” LCD Monitor, 2006
Abc 123 is a peformative piece in which the artist's hand hand writes the letters of the alphabet A to Z, the number system 0 to 9, and the artists's first name, 'Jesus' on the surface of a computer's LCD screen. The 3 min video piece, which plays on a 20 in LCD monitor, playfully questions the permanence of digital technologies and information, and the status of traditional forms of communication and learning in a mediated experience.

Binary Language is a peformative piece in which the artist recites phrases in binary code, or binary language. Zeros and Ones (binary) are the building blocks of all contemporary digital tools and technologies, providing the logic to everything from a digital clock to a high powered computer. The piece is modeled after an educational language video, in which the artist translates phrases from the english language into binary code. The piece looks a both the simplicity and complexity of digital technology which appears archaic and inefficient when simulated by a human being.

Google Data 1 is a visual ensemble of the first 500 entries found on Google’s popular search engine upon searching for the artist's name, Jesus Aguilar. The video, taken directly off of the computer screen, is a continuous loop of text and sound. Issues of indexing, archiving and personal history are points of reference in the conception of this piece.

Alternate Narratives: Three Stories

Alternate Narratives: Three Stories is a fictional construction of three separate narratives incorporating text and images found on the Internet upon searching for the artist's name, Jesus Aguilar. The silent video of static images and text, taken directly off of the computer screen, is an uncannny account of the intertwined realities of Jesus Aguilar and his namesakes.

Using the artist’s name, and beginning with his year of birth (1974) as the internet search criteria, the piece is a representation of factual data graphed into a linear timeline. Births and deaths, graduations and executions, and otherwise banal activities, coincide along a 33 ½ year span ending at 2008 (the year of this exhibition). The piece is a reflection on identity, information politics and distribution, and the building of history through the Internet.
